Flexible Working

Every employee has the legal right to request a flexible working pattern if they have been in employment with the employer for 26 weeks. Flexible working can mean lots of different types of working arrangements; essentially it means working differently to the organisation’s office hours. This means that remote working, homeworking, condensed hours, term-time working, job-shares and flexitime are all types of flexible working. If you would like to request a flexible working arrangement you need to do so in writing stating the date of the request and if any previous application has been made and the date of that application. Employees can only make one request for flexible working each year. You requests for flexible working and any appeals must be considered and decided upon within three months of the receipt of the request. Employers must have a sound business reason for rejecting any request.
