Ethnic Diversity Network at BT

The network supports the development of its members to help them achieve their maximum potential through initiatives such as mentoring & championing.  The ultimate aim of the network is to increase the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnics in management positions in all levels within BT. 

The network has been running for over 21 years and has had senior manager sponsorship throughout this time. It also runs a number of programs and events throughout the year such as:

• School mentoring programme for 15/16 year olds
• Mentoring and championing schemes for members within BT
• High profile events such as ‘An evening with Rio Ferdinand’ to promote networking within members
• Collaboration with external BAME networks and organisations.

Here’s what one of the members say about the network: “I joined BT in 2013 and have been an active member of the EDN’s schools mentoring programme for the past 3 years. The programme has been very enjoyable and rewarding as it enables me to work closely with 14-16 year old students and assisting them with practical skills development, careers guidance and work experience placements as they prepare for post-16 life. It’s also pleasing to act as an ambassador for BT to showcase the numerous pathways and opportunities available to  young adults considering a career either with the firm or the telecommunications sector in general”.  Vinay Pathak, Senior Procurement Manager, BT.
