Energy, Climate and the Planet at KFC

This March KFC is taking part in the Great British Spring Clean, in partnership with Keep Britain Tidy

KFC employees on a litter pick in South Shields

We hate to see litter on our streets, and we know fans of our chicken do too, which is why we’re determined to do our part and help tackle litter.

What does that involve? We’re holding one of our largest-ever litter picks, with people from across the business joining teams at over 600 restaurants nationwide to try and collect 200,000 bags of litter!

We also want to support volunteers in the community. That’s why we’ve worked with Keep Britain Tidy to launch a voucher scheme to give community groups free litter-picking equipment.

A massive thank you to the thousands of KFC team members that have been hitting the streets up and down the country to pick litter!

Our Planet

Zero Waste Logo

We’re hungry to become a fully circular zero waste business by 2035, as well as becoming a net zero carbon business by 2040 or sooner – and we recently launched a partnership with University of Liverpool’s Zero Carbon Research Institute to help us get there. In addition to that, we’re taking steps towards more responsible sourcing and tackling food waste by keeping the skin on our fries (who knew!). Find out what else is in our planet saving recipe.

Waste and Circularity

Waste and CircularityWe have a goal to be a fully circular, zero waste business by 2035. This means every single bucket, box and piece of packaging we use is recyclable or compostable by 2025. Sure, it’s ambitious, but we’ve already made a start. As of today, 100% of our paper and card is FSC certified, all our straws are biodegradable and we’re on course to remove 1,500 tonnes of single-use plastic by next year.

Energy and Climate

Energy and Climate

We are taking action on climate, the biggest challenge facing the world and threat to our collective futures. KFC UK & Ireland has made a commitment to be Net Zero by 2040 or sooner, ten years ahead of the government target, and we’ve signed up to two key initiatives to work on this issue and create a roadmap to get there, working with other businesses in our sector – you can check out the BRC climate roadmap, and the Zero Carbon Forum for hospitality.

Responsible Sourcing

Responsible Sourcing
