Early Careers at Barratt Developments

Many of our Managers and Directors started as apprentices or trainees, so if like them, you want to progress, our apprentice, foundation degree or undergraduate placement programme could be for you. Before long, everyone here will know your name. And you’ll know exactly where you want to take your career next.

Undergraduates Opportunities

Aimed at those studying an undergraduate degree, these paid placements allow you to get to know our business and gain experience on real-life projects. It’s a chance to put your knowledge into practice and bring your learning to life.

The time you spend with one of Britain’s leading housebuilders will boost your CV and help you make an informed choice about which career path to follow. If all goes well, we’ll encourage you to apply for a place on our graduate development programme – and fast-track you through the process.

Graduate Opportunities

As a new graduate, you can choose between a range of one-year and two-year training programmes across construction site management, sales & marketing, land and planning, engineering & design, quantity surveying & buying, and other head office support roles.

Whatever route you take, you’re guaranteed broad business exposure and the opportunity to learn by working in live roles. There’s also structured training to meet your professional development needs, the chance to build connections across our business, and personal mentoring from one of our Directors.

Apprentice & Trainee Opportunity

Within our award winning Barratt Academy we run a number of programmes for Apprentices and Trainees to create the very best skills learning environment for you.

By combining professional training both on-site and in the classroom, our programmes allow you to gain industry recognised qualifications whilst at the same time building connections with experienced professionals and people with specialist technical knowledge. Furthermore, your development will be overseen individually by one of our own Directors, showing you just how seriously we take supporting your training.

Foundation Degree

We’ve collaborated with Sheffield Hallam University to offer a bespoke Foundation Degree which provides a unique opportunity for you to develop the qualities and skills you’ll need to excel in your career in the house-building industry.

You’ll join as Trainee Assistant Site Manager, giving you hands-on site experience from day one. Attending four x 1-week teaching blocks at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) each year, you will achieve the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) accredited Foundation Degree in Residential Development and Construction after three years. From there you have the option to top-up to a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) BSc (Hons) Degree over a further 18 months.

The programme starts with an induction in October each year, with teaching at Sheffield Hallam commencing the following January.
