Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentOur sustainability strategy is called The Difference. And by working here you’ll be given the tools and the support to help us drive down our energy use, CO2 emissions and water consumption.
Our TV and radio production can have a huge impact on the environment. As can our travel and running our state-of-the-art buildings. But we’re working hard to change this. In 2010 we developed albert, the world’s first TV production carbon calculator. And now with help from BAFTA we’ve given everyone in the UK broadcasting industry access to our technology. We’ve also introduced albert+ certification. Albert+ helps production teams make their programmes in more sustainable ways, keeps track of their achievements, and then rewards them with an albert+ rating.
Outreach opportunities are offered in many departments across the organisation, including in and around our largest staff bases in London and Salford. We encourage our staff to volunteer on projects which benefit disadvantaged groups, as well as audiences we have identified as hardest to reach. Activities include mentoring young people as they develop news skills with BBC News School Report; sharing skills to benefit small charities and community organisations; and challenge activities working with target audiences to generate fresh ideas.
We have a long history of working with charities and we broadcast appeals on behalf of many different charities. For BBC Children in Need – one of our three corporate charities – and Comic Relief, we encourage our staff to get involved where possible. That could be by creating a fundraising activity or by volunteering to support beneficiaries of the charity.
