Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentAs a global law firm, we have a responsibility to help shape the future in a way that provides economic, ecological and social benefits for all. We achieve this through charitable giving, community work and environmental sustainability.
Charitable giving
In London, we assist a range of charitable causes, both financially and in a practical way. Our Charitable Foundation – funded entirely by donations from our partners – enables us to help charitable organisations and causes all over the world. We also have an active staff charity committee comprising people who donate their time and resources to coordinating the many fundraising activities our office gets involved in. The two organisations collaborate closely, with the Foundation often match-funding the fundraising efforts of employees.
As well as getting involved in national and international campaigns, we seek relationships with smaller, local charities to maximise the benefit of our charitable giving.
Our charitable activities include:
Each year we host Byte Night, an annual sleep-out under the stars in Potters Fields Park, to raise funds for Action for Children. Colleagues from our IT team join hundreds of others from the IT industry to experience, for one night, a little of what thousands of children and young people feel every night when they have no bed to go home to. In 2016, our total fundraising exceeded £126,000 which represents nearly 25% of the London total for Byte Night, and around 12.5% of the expected national Byte Night total. In the eight years since we have been active participants of Byte Night, we have raised more than £680,000 to help Action for Children fight youth homelessness.
Barretstown, founded by actor Paul Newman, is an international charity with a mission to rebuild the lives of children affected by serious illness. Children and their families from all over the world visit Barretstown Castle in Ireland for weekend and summer camps and take part in fun, exciting and challenging activities. The task at hand is therapeutic recreation; at Barretstown, it’s called ‘serious fun’. We support Barretstown with both financial and hands-on support. Over the past decade we have donated more than £1 million to this amazing charity. As one of their biggest supporters, we also get our hands dirty painting cottages, planting trees and generally working to help enhance and maintain the grounds.
The annual Tour de Law is a cycle challenge, with UK law firms competing to see which firm can be the first to cycle the distance to Paris and back, whilst raising funds for Breast Cancer Care's work supporting breast cancer patients. Each year we install exercise bikes in our office and encourage everyone to get involved with cycling and donating.
Each May, the British Heart Foundation organises their Tower of London jog to raise vital funds for research into heart disease. Being based across the Thames from this historic landmark, we always enter a team of around 100 people to walk, jog and run their way around the Tower moat.
The World's Largest Coffee Morning, organised by Macmillan each September, is always a hit in our office. Bake sales are held across all floors with people donating delicious homemade cakes for their team-mates in return for donations.
Our monthly clothing drives provide interview clothing for disadvantaged men and women, who are struggling to get back into work. Being outfitted in a nearly-new set of clothes can make a huge difference to the confidence of the interviewee. We also support Smart Works by providing interview coaches.
Community work
We partner with organisations that allow us to use our skills to strengthen community ties. Volunteering opportunities are available for all our people, helping with education, sports, disability and health. Our lawyers provide pro bono advice at local community law centres and assist other charities and NGOs by offering assistance on legal matters.
Sustainability
We are committed to minimising our impact on the environment – to protect the planet; ensure resources are available for future generations; and create a better quality of life for all living beings.
