Corporate and social responsibility at Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency

DVLA supports charitable giving. Staff annually vote for a charity of their choice.

The charitable giving approach also formally acknowledges Children in Need, Comic Relief and Sports Relief as corporately supported charities. Current corporate support for the Lifeboat Appeal and Poppy Appeal will also continue.

In addition we allow for donations to local causes as a one-off option at the annual Christmas diversity event.

Alzheimer’s Society was DVLA’s Charity of Choice for 2016. This means that the Alzheimer’s Society was the charity that the Agency corporately promoted and supported throughout 2016.

Work Placement Support Groups

The Work Placement initiative provides the opportunity to give something back to the community. Working with specialised support groups, individuals have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience. Each client will work up to 30 hours per week for 8 -12 weeks. The aim is to help individuals gain invaluable skills to assist them in securing permanent employment. We focus on individuals for a variety of reasons such as disability, long term unemployment, or other barriers.

DVLA currently work with the following support groups:

  • Shaw Trust – is a national charity that helps disabled and disadvantaged people experience work, find a job and live more independently.
  • Ethnic Youth Support Team (EYST) – is a charity organisation which aims to provide a range of services from education, employment, health and personal and community safety to Black, Minority Ethnic (BME) Groups between 11 – 25 year olds.
  • Lift Programme – is part of the Welsh Government agenda for tackling poverty. The programme is targeted towards the long term unemployed and those at risk of becoming long term unemployed due to circumstances eg disability.
  • Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) Cymru – their services provides practical solutions to everyday challenges for blind and partially sighted individuals. They work in partnership with organisations across Wales to provide local services.
  • Career Transition Partnership (CTP Assist) – delivers an individual careers service to those leaving the service as well as wounded, injured and sick soldiers to help them find a fulfilling and long-term second career.
  • DWP – The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to over 22 million claimants and customers.
