Faith at Norton Rose Fulbright

A diverse workforce includes people of a wide range of faiths and we are no exception. We respect people’s freedom within the law to express their beliefs and convictions in worship, prayer, food, dress and social etiquette. We encourage people to be curious about ideals and beliefs beyond their own and seek understanding through talks and events.

Compass

Our Compass employee resource group is an accessible, dynamic and cohesive professional network that supports and educates both Muslims and non-Muslims about Islamic faith, culture and business. Compass has also helped us to develop and strengthen relationships with clients through their own networks and we host both formal and informal opportunities for business development and networking. Compass has also hosted events focussing on other faiths, including Judaism.

Prayer

We have a multi-faith room for use by partners, employees and clients of any faith for prayer or quiet contemplation. The room includes a Qibla which shows the direction of Mecca and also contains washing facilities and prayer mats.

Ramadan

Each year, our Muslim colleagues and clients observe Ramadan. While fasting is usually the primary association with Ramadan, it also includes an emphasis on practising patience, charity and virtue. The discipline required during Ramadan takes preparation so we take the opportunity to remind everyone about the meaning of Ramadan, its significance in the Islam faith and how we can be supportive of our colleagues and clients during this period. This year, we hosted a ‘Prepare to fast’ workshop, offering practical advice to those preparing for fasting. In the spirit of inclusiveness, non-Muslim colleagues can choose to experience a day of fasting, with support from members of Compass. Other activities include a food charity collection and events with local community Muslim groups to celebrate Eid.
