Join the Essex Social Care Academy (ESCA)

Our award winning and BASW accredited Essex Social Care Academy (ESCA) provides a framework that promotes and enables a professional learning culture, improving professional excellence and driving up standards to deliver high quality practice. 

ESCA offers you a comprehensive package from your first day with us and for your entire career.  ESCA keeps a close eye on contemporary social work practice issues and ensures Children and Families staff are trained and supported to manage these through a tiered approach to training.

This award-winning team delivers a wide ranging CPD opportunities to social workers, senior practitioners, team managers, alternatively qualified staff and foster carers.

ESCA has also seen 212 social workers become Practice Educators since 2013 and they have helped shape and mentor the next wave of social workers.  You could also help shape the future of Essex.

Assessed and Supported Year in Employment – AYSE

Assessed and Support Year in Employment (AYSE) is a Government initiative to provide newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) with a bridge from initial training to practice, strengthening professional confidence and capability, resulting in confident and competent practice that is based on a firm foundation of skills and knowledge. It is aligned to the Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF).

The yearlong programme is open to all NQSWs provided they register within two years of successfully completing a recognised social work degree programme.

Community Care Inform

We subscribe to Community Care Inform so that all our qualified practitioners can have access to help and support in their role.  Community Care Inform is an online resource that provides an effective way to keep up to date with the latest research, practice guidance, legislation and case law.  It means that practitioners can learn through their case work, continually expand their knowledge base and make confident decision and assessments based on evidence quality.
