Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Network at DCMS

The purpose of the network is to establish a supportive community through a programme of meetings and linking with other DCMS and Civil Service staff networks.

The network helps to identify and examine issues that disproportionately affect BME staff in the Department, and identify constructive responses and solutions.

How does the network operate?

Support: Provides a forum for members to share ideas, experiences and skills e.g. objective setting, interviewing skills, presentation skills, submission writing etc.

Partnership: To work with others to increase awareness and understanding of relevant issues.

Challenge:  Works constructively with HR to help inform specific initiatives to support BME staff.

Consult: Acts as a consultation mechanism/sounding board to improve departmental policies and processes which better reflect the needs of BME staff.

Raise Awareness: Coordinates and delivers activity to mark events and promote diversity across the department. Including awareness of positive action development programmes, Black History Month and charitable fundraising events.
