Time to Talk Day 2024

Time to Talk Day is the nation’s biggest mental health conversation. Happening every year, it’s a day for friends, families, communities, and workplaces to come together to talk, listen and change lives.

Time to Talk Day 2024 will take place 1 February 2024. It’s run by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness. Across the UK, it’s delivered by See Me in Scotland, Inspire in Northern Ireland and Time to Change Wales.

The more conversations we have, the better life is for everyone. Talking about mental health isn’t always easy and sometimes it’s even harder to say how you really feel. But a conversation has the power to change lives.

Time to Talk Day is the perfect opportunity to start a conversation about mental health.

Here what Joe has to say about his experience coping with mental health.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Awareness Month 2023

How does it affect you if your brain works a bit differently to other people?

For ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Awareness Month we’ve been hearing about the experiences of some of our people at Aviva.

Pete Hunt works in our General Insurance business. He HATES being on camera, but we really wanted to tell his story.

So, here’s what he had to say about his ADHD:

Dry January 2023

With many people taking part in Dry January, our AvivAbility community invited William Porter, speaker and author of 'Alcohol Explained', to talk to our people about the effects that alcohol can have on our bodies, it's impact on our sleep, mental health and much, much more.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2022

To mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities, people from across Aviva joined motivational speaker, Steven Dowd, for an inspiring online conversation.

In his keynote, ‘Better Than Yesterday’, Steven shared the story of his life changing accident and his road to recovery.

In his keynote, ‘Better Than Yesterday’, Steven shared the story of his life changing accident and his road to recovery.

From the lowest lows, to the literal highest highs of climbing the height of Mount Everest in stairs. Steven explained how he dealt with the mental toll of recovery. He also shared the tools he used to tackle the journey – because with the right toolkit, people can achieve extraordinary things

Thank you to Steven, AvivAbility our disability community at Aviva, and our partner for the session, Wellity.

Hear from Kevin Malkin below:

I was registered totally blind at the age of twelve. Having graduated in Mathematics at the University of Nottingham, I started to look for employment. I quickly discovered that potential employers were reluctant to consider a blind applicant. Fortunately, Aviva took a very different approach and were prepared to explore the possibility with an open mind. I was offered a role as a trainee actuary in October 1983 and I am still working for them 34 years later. I have held several roles over the years and have worked with a multitude of talented people and my disability has never been a barrier.

We’ve partnered with SignLive

SignLive is a free online video interpreting service

What that means

A free British Sign Language interpreter for your car and home insurance questions and claims, when our phonelines are open, using the SignLive app.

SignLive is a free online video interpreting service that connects you to a qualified British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter. As part of a pilot, we’ve teamed up with SignLive to give Aviva and AvivaPlus car and home customers what it takes to get in touch using BSL. If the pilot is successful, we hope to roll the service out to all our customers.

Your SignLive interpreter is the bridge between you and a member of the Aviva team so you can discuss your car or home insurance claim or customer service query. You can use this service if your policy number starts with letters, such as MMV or MHO. If your policy number starts with a 72, you have an Aviva Online or Aviva Premium policy and you can find all other ways to get in touch with us on our contact us page.
