We believe all voices at Aviva should be heard. It helps make us a great place to work and reflects the customers and communities we serve.
That’s why we’re renewing our longstanding partnership with Norwich Pride. We’re also continuing our partnership with York LGBT Pride, and, for the first time we’re partnering with Bristol Pride as well! And there’s more! We will be taking part in Perth Pride and hosting a Pride themed celebration at our London office.
Aviva Pride – being yourself at work
At Aviva we recognise the strength in the diversity of our people, and we want our workforce to reflect the customers and communities we serve.
Creating a diverse, inclusive organisation is a fundamental part of living up to our purpose: being with you today, for a better tomorrow.
We are proud to have again made the top 30 in Stonewall Uk’s Workplace Equality Index, and be awarded Gold status.
And this year our amazing Pride Community has also received the ‘Highly Commended Network Group’ award.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen.
Stonewall have been campaigning since 1989 and have created transformative change in the lives of LGBTQ+ people across communities in the UK. The Young Futures Campaign is focused on creating inclusive and open environments for those looking to take the next steps in their career within a corporate setting.
We are proud partners of Stonewall Young Futures, enabling LGBTQ+ young people to kick start their careers.
Gender identity, gender expression and biological sex
In December, our senior leadership team invited one of our Pride Co-Chairs, Daniel C. and a guest speaker Ali Hannon to discuss the topic of gender identity, gender expression and biological sex.
It was an engaging session that utilised the wonderful Genderbread person to create a common understanding of terminology, and was underpinned with insightful statistics and verbatim comments that demonstrate why this conversation is so current and so valuable.
We want all of our customers and our people to feel included at Aviva, regardless of how they identify.
Being an ally
“Being an ally is when you're speaking out for an agenda that is not yours. I'm straight, when I speak out for lesbians or gay colleagues, it's not about me. And it does give your voice much more power as an ally to support that agenda.”
Our Chief People Officer, Danielle Harmer Harmer, talks to DiverCity Podcast about being a true ally. Click on the image below to listen:
We had a fantastic time at Norwich Pride 2022.
✅ Proud to be there
✅ Proud to be main sponsor
✅ Proud
Many thanks to all our fantastic people who took part and volunteered at this fabulous event.
We’ve signed the Norwich Pride Pledge!
As the main sponsor of Norwich Pride this year (2022), we pledge our business will be a safe, welcoming, and friendly place for LGBT+ customers and staff.
We will visibly support and promote equality for LGBT+ people, challenge homophobic and transphobic behaviour, & have clear reporting mechanisms for harassment and discrimination.
We will ensure our staff are trained to understand the experiences of LGBT+ people.
2022 is the 15th anniversary of Aviva Pride – our LGBT+ community
Last week in Norwich we had a special celebration to mark the anniversary, with music, games and prizes.
It was a great event, a fantastic time was had by all. And it sets us up nicely for Norwich Pride on Saturday 30th July, where we are proud to be the main sponsor.
Autistic Pride Day
Autistic Pride Day is a pride celebration for autistic people held on June 18 each year.
Autistic pride recognises the importance of pride for autistic people and its role in bringing about positive changes in the broader society.
We wanted to take this opportunity to share the podcast we recorded with our colleagues Matthew and Daniel who share their experience of living and working with Aspergers and how it affects them as a couple.

March 31st is the International Transgender Day of Visibility. This day highlights our colleagues, friends, family and neighbours who contribute uniquely to diversity at Aviva and around the world.
We are proud to celebrate trans, non-binary, two-spirit and gender diverse individuals, their achievements, and the hard-earned progress that has been made towards true equity (whilst acknowledging there is still more to be done).
We are committed to educating ourselves on trans issues, to raising the voice of trans people and speaking out against transphobia in all its forms.
We are Incredibly proud to have moved up to 27th in Stonewall's Top 100 Employers 2022 for LGBTQ+ people. And to receive a GOLD award!
We're thrilled that our commitment to workplace inclusion and our support for the LGBTQ+ community have been recognised by Europe's largest LGBTQ+ charity.
This award is a testament to the efforts of all people who helped make this happen, especially our amazing Aviva Pride community.
Recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary Aviva Pride is our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community which encourages an inclusive culture where everyone can bring their whole self to work and realise their potential. Our community of LGBT colleagues and straight allies gain opportunities to build their professional and support networks at Aviva, collaborate and share best practice with external partners and customers across a number of industries and help to recruit, develop and retain talent from the LGBT community.
Short Interviews and quotes from Aviva Pride
Hi, I am Robert Gardner, a cis-gendered male and bi-sexual software engineer working within Actuarial Systems Support, and local lead for Aviva Pride in York.
Why are you part of the Aviva Pride network?
Because there is still work to be done to make Aviva a truly inclusive business for employees and customers of all backgrounds.
Favourite Aviva Pride moment?
In June (2017) we had our Ten Years of Aviva Pride celebration and York Pride parade on the same week. Our volunteers organised a huge charity bake-sale including stalls from Aviva’s women’s network, York Mind and York Pride.
People were encouraged to do one small thing to show support for LGBT issues, whether it was wearing our lanyards, changing their email signature to show they were out as an ally, or even just promising to have a conversation with a family member about LGBT issues. The York Pride parade on the Saturday was one of our biggest yet, and I was really proud of the hard work and support shown by our network.
What would you say to someone thinking of getting involved?
Just go for it! Email your local lead and ask about upcoming events that will need support or assistance.

“Hi, I am Daniel Clark-Bland, I work as a PMO Lead in the IT Transformation team. It’s really important to me to work for an employer who recognises and celebrates our differences. Aviva empowers me to make a difference, I’ve done this through fundraising and community work as part of the Aviva Pride Network.”
Daniel Clark-Bland, PMO Lead in the IT Transformation team
“I’m proud to be a member of the Aviva Pride network. I believe that it is important to have senior leaders as role models who passionately believe in embedding and promoting a culture of inclusive diversity where everyone can bring their whole self to work to be the best person they can. I’m so pleased to be able to play my part and I actively encourage others to do the same, to collectively build on our fantastic legacy as a Pride network with our organisation.”
Anthony Fitzpatrick - Employee Relations & Global Policy Lead
“Working for a company that demonstrates inclusion as one of its core values is very important to me. As someone in the LGBTQ community, I feel I work in an environment where I can bring my whole self to work, and that I have opportunities to grow in a diverse space. I have full backing from my manager to be part of Aviva’s Pride network, alongside my job, to help us in the journey to make Aviva better for our LGBTQ staff and customers. I really enjoy being part of a network alongside passionate and dedicated people.”
