Association of Muslim Police at The Metropolitan Police

The Association of Muslim Police (AMP) aims to:

  • Help Muslims in the Police Service observe their faith and promote understanding of Islam within the Police Service and the wider community.
  • Provide a forum for Muslims in the Police and support their religious and welfare needs by improving their immediate working environment and keeping them in the service
  • Support the recruitment and retention of Muslim & BME Officers and staff and help create a fair and just working environment for all cultural minorities.

The AMP works closely with stakeholders, BCU’s, OCU’s, MOPAC and NPCC leads, in order to support the Police and local communities. AMP provides advice and support on Hate Crime matters, issues of trust and confidence, CT, and Stop and Search matters. The AMP often attends Parliament to assist and support public concerns.

The AMP is formally recognised by the MPS and is active in pursuing policies and processes, which do not, in any way, compromise the Equality Act 2010. AMP has played an instrumental part in the provision of many facilities to the benefit of Muslim colleagues, including the introduction of the Hijab for female Officers, the ability to wear Islamic/cultural dress when not in uniform, and Halal food and facilities for Salaah (Islamic prayer).

AMP is seen as critical friend to the MPS and other Police forces in England & Wales who sometimes contact AMP for advice.
