Accountability for Implementation of the D&I Initiative at the Highest Levels of Management, Reed Smith has taken a top-down approach toward retaining diverse and female talent, placing more direct responsibility and accountability at the Practice Group and Department Head levels.

The primary way we ensure our attorneys are on track is to have active participation among the D&I Initiative members and firm management.

Through mentoring and monitoring statistics and engaging in an on-going dialogue about individual performance, career goals, and practice aspirations, we are often times ahead of the issues that tend to cause diverse attorneys to leave big firms, namely, workflow, quality of work, the absence of consistent mentorship, and isolation.

Through mentoring and monitoring, the D&I Initiative has also been successful in highlighting the accomplishments and abilities of our diverse talent, identifying professional and business development opportunities for diverse attorneys, and supporting our attorneys in their diversity.
