In 2010, the UN introduced plans to fight against trafficking and exploitation by boosting development and strengthening security. The UN Voluntary Trust Fund for victims of trafficking was set up to provide protection to victims.
The General Assembly held a meeting in 2013 to appraise the Global Plan of Action against human trafficking. It was also decided that 30th July would be the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness of the cause and promote the rights of the victims.
