Royal Mail

Royal Mail

We are the only company delivering a ‘one-price-goes-anywhere’, six days a week service to more than 29 million addresses across the UK. Royal Mail successfully floated on the London Stock Exchange in October 2013 and is one of the UK's leading companies. More than 700,000 members of the public bought shares in Royal Mail, and the majority of our UK employees received free shares, amounting to a ten per cent stake in our company.

We are now engaged in one of the biggest industrial transformations in recent British history. Letter volumes are declining, parcels business is growing, much of it driven by the rise of e-retailing. We are determined to retain our proud position as number one in parcel deliveries. Our vision is to be recognised as the best delivery company in the UK and across Europe.

Royal Mail is one of the largest employers in the UK, directly employing around 139,000. One in 175 employed people in the UK work for Royal Mail, and we also support a further 114,100 jobs in the wider UK economy. Success at Royal Mail depends on our people. They represent the company among communities and with customers, six days a week. We rely on them to fulfil the Universal Service and go the extra mile in delivering a high quality customer service.

More about Royal Mail

Royal Mail’s vision is to be recognised as the best delivery company in the UK and across Europe.

Our Values

At the heart of WCM is the embedding of certain common values across Royal Mail’s operations, including the treatment of high performance as standard, opportunities for enhancing employees’ training and skills, and the generation of a sense of pride and opportunity in the workplace.

Inclusive culture

We seek to promote behaviours and working practices which recognise and respect the differences between people, and help them to fulfil their potential.

To support our people, we make a significant investment in our learning and development programmes. Almost 31,000 colleagues undertook formal training last year. People development also forms a pillar of our World Class Mail programme. In 2012-13, we also offered three apprenticeship programmes in Engineering, Motor Vehicle and Operational Management leading to national vocational qualifications.

Communicating change

Royal Mail Group is committed to involving all our employees in our change programme. We are doing this through an employee engagement programme in consultation with our unions as well as via a regular programme of internal communications.

We all have a responsibility to treat each other fairly and with respect, no matter what our colleagues’ race, age, gender, sexuality, disability or religious beliefs.

We recognise that different people have different needs, and are able to contribute in different ways. We promote behaviours and working practices which recognise and value the difference between people, and help them to fulfil their potential.
