Nottingham City Homes

Overview

Nottingham City Homes is proud to be the UK Housing Awards Landlord of the Year 2018. We manage around 27,000 homes in the city of Nottingham. Our vision is to create homes and places where people want to live. Our tenants and leaseholders are at the heart of everything we do. We’re an arms’ length management organisation (ALMO) of Nottingham City Council – that means that the council owns the homes, and we manage them on its behalf, under the governance of a Board made up of councillors, tenants and leaseholders, and independent and co-opted members.

Our goals are:

  • To be a first class housing organisation in the eyes of our tenants and leaseholders
  • To be a major player in the transformation of neighbourhoods
  • To be a great place to work, widely respected as a first class organisation
  • To generate new business, securing additional income to reinvest in Nottingham and our communities

We’re an Investors in People Gold company and employ more than 900 people. Our values define the way we work, set out who we are as an organisation and shape our customers expectations. Our core business includes - managing the city's housing register - letting empty homes - collecting rents and managing tenancies - providing a community alarm service and an independent living service to support older and vulnerable people - repairs and maintenance - caretaking services - improving council housing through a multi-million programme of planned investment.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

We’re a Disability Confident employer, committed to promoting equality and to celebrate the diversity of our customers and our staff. We’re an organisation that reflects our communities and supports all our staff to achieve their potential.

Equality is part of our everyday decision making – we have forums for ethnic minority staff, for staff with disabilities, and for staff who are lesbian, gay, bi or trans, and we consult with them to help improve our services. We also carry out equality impact assessments across all our services to make sure that they reflect the needs of our customers.

We also help our older customers by ensuring our services, particularly the adaptations and independent living services, meet their needs.

We work with partners such as the Police and Nottingham City Council to tackle hate crime and domestic violence, and we take swift action to prevent repeat incidents while supporting victims and survivors.

To support our Equality and Diversity initiatives, we also proudly partner with Stonewall, a charity that works with the public and private sector organisations to address the needs of lesbians, gay men, bi and trans-people within their lives.

We help our customers prepare for welfare reform changes that may affect them, and we help them to access work and training opportunities.

Each year we support a range of events that celebrate the diverse population of Nottingham, including the Nottingham Carnival, PRIDE, Mela and more. Like us on Facebook to get involved.

We have an Equality and Diversity Panel that is made up of customers from across our communities. The Panel helps us to offer services that meet everyone’s needs and reflect the rich diversity of our city.

Stonewall Diversity Champion

We’re proud to be in the Stonewall's Top 100 2019 and to be a member of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions programme. Diversity Champions is a good practice forum for sexual orientation and gender identity issues in the workplace.

All our services are implicitly inclusive of those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and gender identity (LGBT).

We benchmark our work in relation to lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans identity inclusion.

Through being a Stonewall Diversity Champion we’re sending a strong signal to our LGBT staff and customers that we celebrate diversity, and have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, bullying or harassment in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity, and all other protected characteristics.
