National Institute For Health & Care Excellence

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is the independent organisation responsible for providing national guidance and advice on promoting high quality health, public health and social care.
Our role is to improve outcomes for people using the NHS and other public health and social care services.
All our work directly and positively impacts on the lives of others.

We do this by:

  • Producing evidence-based guidance and advice for health, public health and social care practitioners.
  • Developing quality standards and performance metrics for those providing and commissioning health, public health and social care services.
  • Providing a range of information services for commissioners, practitioners and managers across health and social care.

Our Equality Objectives

The current NICE equality objectives cover a four-year period from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2024. The objectives are intended to be ambitious and inspiring for our staff and users, while also specific and measurable. The overarching aim is to develop our workforce and culture to be more equal, diverse, and inclusive.

Staff Voice

We are committed to having a dynamic and authentic dialogue with staff. So we do all that we can to build staff voice into everything we do, including the development of our workforce equality objectives and action plans.

We hold regular ‘listening events’ open to all staff, empowering colleagues with lived experience and a passion for this work to contribute to in a meaningful way.
