Financial Conduct Authority

The Financial Conduct Authority

The Financial Conduct Authority is the conduct regulator for 56,000 financial services firms and financial markets in the UK and the prudential regulator for over 18,000 of those firms.

We aim to make markets work well, both for financial firms and their customers. We regulate the conduct of firms to ensure that the industry is run with integrity, that people have access to the products and services they need and that consumers can trust their providers.

Our people come from many different backgrounds, but we all share a common goal. Our aim is to provide better financial services for everyone, by delivering effective regulation, providing valuable insight and improving competition. In doing so, we help shape domestic policy and play a key role on the global regulatory stage.

Who we're looking for

We’re a diverse, forward-facing organisation which is continually working to drive improvements across the financial service. First and foremost, we’re looking for people who share our openness, desire and determination.

We hire people from all sorts of backgrounds because we want to reflect the society we serve. There are a variety of opportunities available with us, and many business areas that could benefit from your experience.

More about Financial Conduct Authority

Cultural Characteristics

We have five cultural characteristics that describe how we try to do things, both internally and externally. If you share these values, you’re the kind of person we’re looking for:

  • We want people with backbone, who judge situations carefully, are confident communicators and challenge the status quo.
  • We promote professional excellence and we demonstrate it in everything we do, by setting high standards and delivering on our commitments.
  • We’re curious by nature.
  • We want to learn and find out more, every day, and we explore the implications of our actions in detail.
  • We’re already on the case, thinking ahead and acting with confidence.
  • We are a strong team that celebrates our differences and successes, and we show trust in our colleagues.

Diversity & Inclusion

The FCA is a fully inclusive employer – we have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in everything we do. Our aim is to create a diverse and inclusive workplace that is free from discrimination and bias so that we can better deliver our role as regulator. We want our employees to trust that their differences are respected and valued so they can genuinely be themselves at work.

We have set ourselves stretching targets to increase the representation of women in our senior team to 50% and Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME) colleagues to 13% by 2025 – representative of the UK population.

We support our people to understand, represent and have close links with both the wider community and the marketplace. This helps us provide the best service to the public and the financial sector and be in the strongest position to meet our obligations and role. Our Executive Diversity Committee takes strategic decisions on issues affecting equality, diversity and inclusion at the FCA, and has senior executive level responsibility for taking forward our plans and activities.
