Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentAs a place of work, Essex County Council feels different from most other organisations. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional, research-driven, customer focused and also very much connected to real events in the local community. While organisations in the private sector are focused primarily on profits, the ultimate objectives for us are to protect the vulnerable in our communities, grow the Essex economy and encourage people in communities to support each other and take responsibility for what matters to them.
This makes for an unusually satisfying place to develop your career. Whichever area of the council you join, you will almost certainly be working on high-impact projects. The issues we deal with on a daily basis are often in the news headlines, and have implications for everyone in the county. For many of our people, this sense of contributing to the public good is one of the most rewarding aspects of working here.
The environment we offer is extraordinary too. Our historic building, constructed between 1909 and 1939, is in the heart of Chelmsford, and combines rich tradition with modern facilities. A range of artworks can be found across Chelmsford County Hall and Chelmsford Shire Hall. Just as important, we have a strong culture of support that exists within each of our teams and across the organisation as a whole.
Working for Essex County Council will give you the opportunity to do this and much more. Please take the time to look through our page to find out about the fantastic opportunities that working for Essex brings and click on a job to apply.

At Essex County Council (ECC) we have a vision for Essex to be a county where individuals, families and communities can thrive and prosper.
To achieve this, we have undergone a significant transformation in recent years and we continue to reorganise our structure so we can protect the most vulnerable and enable our economy to grow.
We've delivered changes in how we work too, empowering our people to take further responsibility and deliver results that make a lasting impact. We are also working more collaboratively with our partners and, most importantly, the many communities of Essex, to continue to ensure we all contribute to the great quality of life the people of Essex enjoy and deserve.

Diversity is about understanding that each of us is different and respecting and celebrating those differences. Equality is about making sure different groups are not disadvantaged when accessing services, employment or participating in public life in Essex.
The Equality Act 2010 highlights protection for people who are most likely to be disadvantaged or discriminated against by our society, making it illegal to discriminate on age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability and race grounds. These are known as protected characteristics.
We're committed to removing barriers that might restrict people and proactively work towards positive change. The Local Government Association has judged us as 'excellent'
