EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

People are at the heart of DMU. We place being a truly inclusive university at the centre of everything we do, and aim to employ a representative workforce.

Every single person at DMU is different. Critical to our success as a university is the understanding that the diversity of staff, students and the community we serve enhances our strength, opportunities and creativity.

We consider applications solely on the basis of merit – regardless of age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy and maternity. We regularly audit our buildings to ensure accessibility for staff and visitors with disabilities.

Equality Charters

At DMU, we participate in a number of equality and diversity related charter marks.  We are Athena SWAN Bronze award holders, a Disability Confident Employer, Race Equailty Charter Bronze award holders, ranked 39th in the 2017 Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (3rd highest ranked university in the UK) and have signed the Time to Change pledge.

In 2016, we also launched our own game-changing equality and diversity charter, DMUfreedom, outlining nine game changing aspirations we would like to achieve between 2016 and 2020.

Staff Network Groups

At DMU, we have staff network groups for BAME staff, disabled staff and allies and LGBTQ staff and allies. These groups provide a forum for consultation and discussion and inform the university on policy and procedure.

We also have Christian and Muslim chaplains at DMU, who provide spiritual support, advice and encouragement to students and staff of all faiths and none.
