Birmingham St Mary's Hospice

At Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice we provide end of life care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses. Every day we care for 400 people across Birmingham and Sandwell. We do this by taking care beyond the hospice itself, offering personalised support to people in their homes and communities. Our aim is to help people live well with their illness, right up to the end of life, and to be there for their families, carers and loved ones.

We are also champions of palliative and end of life care and have a commitment to research, innovation and teaching, striving to transform care for future generations.

Breaking Down the Barriers

To ensure every part of the community can access our support, here are some of things we are doing:

  • Translating information about the Hospice in 7 different languages
  • Working with community leaders
  • Attending community events such as Eid in the Park and Pride
  • Recruiting volunteers who speak numerous different languages
  • Providing spiritual care services

More about Birmingham St Mary's Hospice

Our Values

Our mission and ambition is hospice care for all. We want to take care beyond the hospice itself, reaching out to every part of the community. We support people in their homes and neighbourhoods, as well as break down barriers so that religion, ethnicity, age or wealth are not obstacles to accessing our good work.

By building partnerships and growing our research and education programme we will share our expertise and knowledge to help others and work with them to deliver the best of end of life care.

  • Delivering quality care
  • Improving access for all
  • Sharing expertise
  • Working collaboratively
  • Changing attitudes

Inclusive diversity is at the forefront of everything we do. The Hospice aims to create a future where the best experience of living is available to everyone – irrespective of their faith, disability, gender or sexuality by ensuring our services are inclusive and accessible for all.

This ethos is also translated into the workplace as we are committed to create a diverse and inclusive workplace, recognised by our achievement of the Investors in Diversity Award. For example, the Hospice has an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group who actively drive a programme of equality activities to ensure the organisation has inclusivity at its heart. Some the events we have held include cultural celebrations, Menopause Café and taking part in Birmingham Pride.
