The Association of British Insurers is the voice of the UK’s world-leading insurance and long-term savings industry. A productive and inclusive sector, our industry supports towns and cities across Britain in building back a balanced and innovative economy, employing over 310,000 individuals in high-skilled, lifelong careers, two-thirds of which are outside of London. 

As an organisation, we’re a collaborative bunch and work in a fast paced, friendly, open plan office in the heart of the City (don’t get us started on how good our view is). We work hard but have lots of fun along the way – our Sports and Social Committee make sure of that. COVID-19 has meant we've spent much of our time working from home but we've kept our positive work culture going with plenty of virtual activities including step challenges, wellbeing events, quizzes, an escape room and much-welcome food hampers delivered to our doors.

Our role is to develop policy solutions for challenges facing society where our industry has a role to play – think tackling the impact of Covid-19 and Brexit, to giving the public more transparency around their pensions, to name just a few. As a forward-thinking organisation, we work with government, regulators and policymakers, both in the UK and internationally, to ensure the insurance and long-term savings industry meets the needs of the public to the highest standard.

Diversity & Inclusion

We are a leading voice for greater diversity in the insurance and long-term savings sector and are working with our members to build a modern and inclusive industry.

Our Talent & Diversity Network brings our members together to discuss key issues, share best practice and drive change. As an employer, our inclusion strategy focuses on creating a culture at the ABI that allows everyone to thrive. 

First launched in 2018 and refreshed in 2020, our internal inclusion strategy sets out the ambition to be a workplace that attracts, nurtures and retains a diverse range of talent and where all colleagues feel able to bring their whole selves to work. In addition to continuing commitments to flexible working, supporting the INvolve mentoring scheme for LGBTQ+ and Black, Asian and minority ethnic colleagues and tracking progress on inclusion work through the employee engagement survey, we have committed to:

  • Achieving a 50/50 female to male split across the ABI’s senior management population by 31 December 2022
  • Using blind recruitment processes to mitigate against the risk of unconscious bias. Longlists from recruitment agencies for senior management recruitment must have a 50/50 gender split.
  • Looking at implementing reverse mentoring for the Executive Team with junior colleagues from a range of backgrounds
  • Rolling out cultural awareness training.
  • Launching a new ‘speak up’ policy so all colleagues understand expectations and know how to report any unacceptable behaviour.
