Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentWe were set up in 1946, by Royal Charter, to champion and develop art and culture across the country. We’re governed by an Executive Board and National and Area Councils. We believe that great art and culture inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves and the world around us. In short, it makes life better.
We champion, develop and invest in artistic and cultural experiences that enrich people's lives. We support activities across the arts, museums and libraries – from theatre to digital art, reading to dance, music to literature, and crafts to collections. Between 2015 and 2018, we will invest £1.1 billion of public money from government and an estimated £700 million from the National Lottery to help create art and culture experiences for everyone, everywhere.

These are what we believe to be important here at the Arts Council. They are drawn from the ideas and beliefs of people throughout the organisation. They define us by saying clearly who we are, what we do and how we do it.
We are all proud that our organisation holds these six values at its heart. They are proof that we have a clear sense of who we are and what we believe in. Our purpose is clear and we have talented people, passionate about the arts and ready to make these values come alive.
We believe that England’s rich and varied cultural identity can and should be reflected through the arts, increasing understanding and enhancing lives.
Whoever you are, whatever your background, you can play your part. Working with a range of individuals, we believe that access to a variety of personalities, skills and outlooks enables us to truly represent England’s cultural identity. It’s important that our staff reflect the communities we serve so we take diversity seriously.
Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our attitude towards our employees. We’ll respect you as an individual – our internal support and network groups, fair policies and practices are designed to include everyone’s perspective and expertise. Our commitment to equality for gay, lesbian and bisexual employees is reflected in our role as one of Stonewall’s Diversity Champions.
We are committed to attracting and recruiting diverse candidates. All disabled candidates who meet our minimum (essential) criteria are guaranteed an interview.
