Alzheimer's Society

Alzheimer's Society

Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

Dementia devastates lives. By 2021, 1 million people will be living with the condition. But dementia won't win. Until the day we find a cure, Alzheimer's Society will be here for anyone affected by dementia - wherever they are, whatever they're going through. Everything we do is informed and inspired by them.

We are the UK's leading dementia charity. Every day, we work tirelessly to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. We provide expert information, training, and support services to all those who need our help. And we are creating a more dementia-friendly society so people with the condition can live without fear and prejudice.

Let's take on dementia together. Volunteer. Donate. Campaign for change. Whatever you do, unite with us against dementia.

Our mission

Our mission is to create a society where everyone affected by dementia is supported, accepted and able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.

In order to realise our aim of reaching everyone we need to understand the diverse needs of those affected by dementia. And the best way to do that is to ensure that our people (volunteers and employees) are reflective of the wider UK society.  That’s why our people are so important to us.

Reaching more communities with our services

To create a society where everyone affected by dementia has access to our services we are focused on making sure our services are accessible and inclusive of everyone in the UK society. Here are some of the things we’re doing:

  • Translating information about dementia and dementia services
  • Forming relationships with community leaders to spread the word about Dementia
  • Creating Dementia Friends in partnership with services such as RNIB
  • Collaborating on research projects to increase our understanding of:

- People who are deaf and have dementia

- People who are LGBT+ and have dementia

Our Values

Our values and behaviours underpin this mission and reflect diversity and inclusion at every level: We get it, We will do it, We are united.

By living our values we include and empower our employees, volunteers and those affected by dementia - recognising individuals' true potential. In doing so we excel in making the Society an inspiring place to work, and attract and retain the very best people.

If the values and behaviours play a part in making the Society inclusive place to be – check out the video below to find out more!

Diversity & Inclusion

At Alzheimer’s Society, we are committed ensuring that we are an organisation where equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) are at the heart of everything we do.

From 2015-2017 we established our first Equality, Diversity and Inclusion strategic plan which focused on setting the foundations of equality. This included the launch of the first EDI policy, ensuring that all of our people policies take into consideration equality and inclusion, and the launch of our first mandatory EDI learning module. These initiatives have raised the profile and awareness of EDI across the Society.

Now we want to do even better so in April 2018 we launched our new EDI strategic plan.
