Zurich: First Insurer in Stonewall's Equality Index

Zurich has been named as one of the Top Global Employers in Stonewall’s 2018 Index, one of only 13 organisations to make the list.  It also becomes the first insurer to be named in the 7 year history of the Global Top Employers List, reflecting the commitment across the Zurich group to drive progress on LGBT+ issues in recent years.



In December 2016, Zurich launched its global LGBT Network, Pride@Zurich and now has networks across two thirds of its worldwide locations including the UK, North America & Canada, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Farmers, Mexico, Brazil and Spain.

In the UK, Zurich colleagues recently took to the streets to take part in London’s iconic Pride parade to celebrate LGBT+ culture, as 600 people from 12 insurance companies formed part of the largest single insurance entity in the Parade’s forty-six-year history (pictured left). This is in addition to having a parade presence in Leeds - where Zurich is a headline sponsor - Southampton and Glasgow later this summer. The insurer has also spearheaded the launch of the Inclusive Behaviours Pledge earlier this month, designed to change behaviours and create a more inclusive work environment across the sector, with 50 firms signed up so far.

It recognises the progress we’ve made to become a more inclusive employer, welcoming people from different backgrounds and valuing the contribution they can make to our industry.

“It’s massively important to us that we continue to create an environment of respect and understanding for LGBT people at Zurich by developing policies and practices that encourage inclusion for everyone.  It’s the right thing to do and helps us generate diversity of thought, innovative solutions and higher levels of engagement in our employee base.”
