I work in ‘Engagement’, which means talking to people who live where the railway will run, to explain how we’re going to build it and what it means for them. I also talk to business people who want to help us build and run the railway. I have to understand a lot about the project and enjoy meeting different kinds of people. I was born in Birmingham and went to school and university locally. I have always worked in the Midlands because I think Birmingham is a great place to live.
All sorts of people live here, so you can experience lots of different cultures. People can be very surprising; for example I’m a trained sword fighter. I started at university when I saw some other people having a go. My first weapon was rather like a pirate sword.
