Skip to main content“I have been a West Midlands Police Intelligence Analyst for just over a decade. I can honestly say there has never been a day when I have thought "I do not want to do this job anymore". When I sit down and think sometimes why I feel this way, I have come to the conclusion that it is due to the combination of the variety of work I am involved in on daily basis which means I don’t get bored, and most importantly it’s because I know the work I do contributes towards helping people resolve their problems.Don't get me wrong there have been many days over the last decade which have been challenging, but I have always seen these challenges and barriers as opportunities to improve and resolve problems.
I have been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work in a variety of analyst roles during my career, including strategic, tactical and partnership analysis. For example, during my work in the strategic team, I produced a Modern Slavery profile through liaising with over 200 plus partner organisations. Not only has profile been utilised to develop force policy, it has also has been used by partner organisations to develop West Midlands Region wide policy to tackle relevant issues. In terms of tactical analysis, I have been involved in a number of operational pieces of work where my analysis has been used as evidence to support various cases through the courts process. My work at various Community Safety Partnerships has included engaging with multiple education, health, local authority and community safety agencies. During this experience I initially encouraged partners to share data, followed by completing analysis of the shared data, and finally presenting recommendations to drive partnership activity.
During the course of my career I have also used the analyst skills I have gained to support the work of the West Midlands Police Association of Muslim Police on a voluntary basis. My work here has provided direction through allowing the association to better understand their priorities and therefore tackle the relevant issues more effectively then otherwise would have been the case.
I firmly believe that the analyst role is central to helping to firstly better understand problems and then providing direction towards resolving them. For me there is no greater job satisfaction than knowing that my work is contributing towards preventing and resolving community issues, which is the core purpose of community safety agencies”
