Virgin Media make steps to narrow the 2017 gender pay gap
The concept of jobs being designated for boys and girls is irrelevant. Everyone should have access to equal job opportunities irrespective of their gender.
Virgin Media expressed its commitment towards creating a gender-balanced and varied workforce, to represent the wide range of communities and customers the company serves. The organisation is taking an initiative to ensure that everyone brings their best selves to work.
The company stated its will to address representation of gender and support for women at work. Objectives include 50/50 parity of gender by 2025. A range of programmes has been incorporated for reaching this goal. One key programme is Boomerang, which helps people with career breaks settle into roles at Virgin Media. Another essential programme of the company is Early Careers, which lays focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math’s) roles.
The 2017 results for gender pay gap were published recently. The findings show that results are better than the average in the UK. In figures, the organisation’s pay gap is 17.4% as compared to the national average of 18.1%. It shows the organisation’s efforts for being better than average. The implementation of three pillars of inclusion is aiming to decrease the pay gap further. They are also contributing towards creating a diverse pool of workers, representing the communities and people being served.
The three pillars are:
1. Draw and retain a diverse pool of talent. The company will ensure that at least one candidate who is female is included in the shortlist of a final three, for any available role.
2. Enable leaders to have the power to push for inclusion. This will involve measuring and acknowledging the efforts of leaders, who exhibit behaviours of an inclusive nature, along with additional activities.
3. Establish inclusion as a normal aspect of identifying and work. The company is improving its tools, policies and work methods for helping workers deliver optimum results.
