VCA: A day in the life of a Legislation Administrative Assistant
A day in the life of a Legislation Administrative Assistant in Vehicle Certification Agency Headquarters.
The Apprenticeship role will fall within our Legislation section; the section is responsible for collecting information on legislation changes and publishing this information, dealing with enquiries from the public and processing applications for exemptions from pieces of legislation.
Training will be provided on all the following aspects.
- Research legislation changes (Browsing fixed websites that publish legislation for any updates or changes. Downloading documents from these websites into specified folders)
- Summarise documents (Once the above documents have been downloaded, write a brief summary of what the document aims to do – using Microsoft Word.)
- Attend ‘Editors Meetings’ (Editors Meetings are where the above summarised documents are discussed and the effect of the new documents considered.)
- Assist with uploading documents to LegStat (LegStat is a database of proposed and draft amendments to legislation. Any new documents that are downloaded and summarised will be uploaded to this database.)
- Formatting/Editing of Legislation documents (As part of a team of authors, update existing documents in Microsoft Word to show current requirements. Then publish these documents using a publishing package called VISTA.)
- DVD Production (Once a month, assist the team to produce DVDs of the Legislation Library using VISTA and DVD Burning software. Assist the team with the packing and despatching of these DVDs.)
- Customer queries (Deal with customer queries relating to VISTA and LegStat services. Guidance and training will be given.)
- Registering applications and enquiries (Register applications and enquiries from customers using Excel Spreadsheets and email using Microsoft Outlook.)
As the role and experience develops there will be opportunities to become involved in other aspects of the sections work.
