Young footballers are getting a “massive” boost after UK Power Networks awarded hundreds of pounds to pay for vital training equipment.
Players aged eight at Rusthall Football Club in Tunbridge Wells no longer have to beg or borrow gear for coaching sessions. Thanks to a £250 grant which will pay for brand new bibs, cones and footballs.
UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity to eight million homes and business across London, East Anglia and the South East, donated the money as part of its Team Sport Award program.
Rusthall F.C under-8s’ coach Stewart Selling lives in Tunbridge Wells. He works at UK Power Networks and in his spare time he trains the youngsters of Rusthall F.C. for their games in the Tandridge league. Three of his players were recently snapped up by famous professional clubs, Crystal Palace and Brighton Hove Albion.
Stewart was delighted about the £250 cash injection for his 20-strong squad and said:
“I was overwhelmed when I found out and the club really appreciates it too,” he said. “Rusthall is a non-profit club and there is not a lot of money about, so this is brilliant. It’s massive; whatever extra money we get is hugely appreciated.”
Last year, UK Power Networks handed out more than £13,000 to sports groups in which colleagues participate, benefiting hundreds of teams and clubs. The Team Sport Awards scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and promotes healthy living and team work.
