UK Power Networks is the first electricity distributor to be named in the Sunday Times’ 25 Best Big Companies to Work For, and also holds the title of Utility of the Year (2015 and 2012).
The company’s 5,600 employees are dedicated to delivering a safe, secure electricity supply to 8.1 million homes and businesses.
At UK Power Networks employees all have a part to play and everyone’s contribution matters. As we strive to run the most reliable electricity networks, operate safely and give the best customer service, we need to ensure that we not only attract the best recruits but also effectively develop our employees to provide the best service. We must ensure that we remove any barriers which potentially prevent our employees from contributing to the best of their ability.
We refer to our Company’s activities in the area of diversity and inclusiveness, under the new banner of ‘Everyone Matters’ because this captures the very essence of our approach.
Research has shown that there is a clear link between high levels of employee engagement and business performance, and also a strong connection between an effective equality, diversity and inclusion approach and employee engagement.

To help us understand where we are on the journey to inclusiveness, and where we can improve, we have committed to seek accreditation under the National Equality Standard (NES).
The NES has been developed by Ernst & Young (EY) in partnership with 18 other UK and global organisations and the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The standard is supported by the Home Office and the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
The NES sets clear equality, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) criteria against which organisations are assessed and aims to significantly impact upon the way ED&I is integrated into everyday business.
All of us want to work for a company where our contribution is recognised and valued – ‘Everyone Matters’ is one of the ways in which this can be achieved and all of us has a part to play in ensuring that this happens.
