Marking this year’s International Women’s Day
This Friday, 8th of March 2019, we are marking International Women's Day by raising awareness of the importance of gender balance in the workplace. Our EMPower Community have organised three sets of activities to recognise this event.
Let’s spare a moment to stop and think about gender balance at UK Power Networks: last year we’ve taken great steps in this direction through our Diversity & Inclusion initiatives, including collecting much needed data, reviewing our training and career movement methods.
We continue to focus on initiatives that will create an inclusive culture where everyone feels they are valued and able to be heard. For 2019 our focus is on the following areas which will bring us closer to achieving greater gender balance:
Improving the percentage of women applying for field roles
Maintaining our 60% diverse graduates and apprentices’ intake
Reducing our gender pay gap
UK Power Networks employees are donating clothes this International Women’s Day:
We support Smart Works, a charity that provides clothing and interview training to unemployed women in need of jobs. One in two women helped by Smart Works successfully secures a job. So our colleagues are donating high quality interview-appropriate women’s clothes, in good condition and ready to wear.
