Judges have named local electricity company UK Power Networks as the best for customer service, at a prestigious national awards ceremony.
Staff are today celebrating success in the Utility Week Stars Awards after the company, which owns and operates the electricity networks in the East of England, London and the South East, clinched a hat-trick of wins on Friday (June 17).
UK Power Networks’ award winners were:
Customer Culture - for the Customer Change team who make sure more than 6,000 employees and contractors know what great service looks like, studying results and customer survey feedback, holding everyone accountable for delivery. Monthly polling of our customers in 2012 put customer satisfaction at around 70%, now it is consistently more than 85%.
Rising Star – joint winner Sammy-Jo Evans, 18, from Romford, Essex, is learning to install, maintain and repair electricity substations and keeping the lights on at a busy airport. Top of her class, she is on track to sit her trade test at least six months early and was assigned to more challenging and technical work earlier than usual to stretch her capabilities.
Supernova Award for Long Service – joint winner Graham Smith, 70, is a linesman from Chelmsford in Essex, with 50 years’ experience in the electricity industry. He has mentored countless trainees during his career and memorably, was one of the heroic ‘storm troopers’ who worked hard to restore power after the catastrophic damage caused by the 1987 hurricane.
Chief Executive Basil Scarsella said:
“Our employees are the backbone of our business and our most valuable asset. Without their dedication and hard work we couldn’t achieve the high standards we do in delivering electricity to eight million customers. I’m proud of our staff and glad their achievements have been independently recognised by the industry.”
Utility Week hosted the awards to celebrate the outstanding contribution that people working behind the scenes in the UK’s utilities make every day, keeping the lights on and the taps running. The awards honour people who go above and beyond the call of duty to deliver vital services.
