The Henry Cavendish Primary School, Balham and Streatham has been awarded a £250 grant from UK Power Networks as part of the company’s Team Sport Awards Scheme.
The school, named after the famous British scientist who discovered hydrogen, caters for a culturally diverse group of students from nursery to Year 6, and was nominated to receive the grant by UK Power Networks’ Head of Customer Change, Hannah Ngoma.
Hannah, who has two sons at the school and is a Co-Chair of the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association said: “The school provides an amazing learning environment for children and we are all so pleased to have been awarded this grant from UK Power Networks. We have established a sports programme, free and fully-inclusive irrespective of ability or experience, to encourage all within the Henry Cavendish school community (children, parents, carers, teachers) to participate in sports, using local facilities.
“The money will be put to good use and will go towards the PTFA Sports Programme Running Club, to buy additional equipment for athletics drills, kit for the children to wear as proud members of the running club, and end-of-year certificates and medals. This all goes a long way to keeping the children engaged and motivated.
“The Team Sport Awards scheme is a brilliant way to help local organisations in the area so that they can continue to carry out their vital work, in this case, helping to educate and inspire young children, and promoting their fitness and well-being.”
The Henry Cavendish Primary School was originally established in 1898 and in September 2010, the school expanded to a separate site in Streatham to provide additional much-needed primary school places.
UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity supplies across London, runs the Team Sport Award scheme to encourage staff to volunteer in the community. The scheme also promotes healthy living, teamwork and sporting opportunities. Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £15,500 was donated to groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
