The company, which keeps the lights on in London, the South East and East of England, also won the customer care, marketing initiative and smart utilities awards at the glittering Utility Week Achievement Awards ceremony on (14th December 2015) in London. It was highly commended in the Staff Development category for its innovative staff safety training scheme.
As a finalist in nine categories, UK Power Networks was also shortlisted for capital programme management, team of the year, supply chain excellence and was a double finalist in the IT initiative category.
The company has massively reduced the number and duration of power interruptions, improved information, services and practical help for customers, run successful media and social media campaigns encouraging vulnerable customers to sign up for the company’s Priority Services Register and delivered pioneering projects to prepare existing electricity networks to meet the changes and challenges of the future.
Chief Executive Basil Scarsella, said: “We are Britain’s most improved electricity distributor this year and it really feels like it has been a golden year in our five-year history. It’s a credit to our staff and contractors that we have achieved this special award for a second time. They go above and beyond their jobs to deliver the standards customers expect.
“I’m proud of our teams and the progress we have made in our first five years under new ownership. This will inspire us to keep improving our performance in key areas such as customer service, safety, efficiency and innovation.”
Utility Week’s industry achievement awards recognise the companies and individuals in the gas, water and electricity utilities and the associated contractors and consultants, forging the way ahead in an industry which is the bedrock of the UK economy.UK Power Networks last won Utility of the Year in 2012 for its achievements in building a new network for the Olympic Park and powering many sporting venues and transport hubs during the Games.
The company has won another nine awards last year including: named in the top 25 Best Big Companies to Work For; supply chain excellence at the Construction News Awards; wellbeing and engagement reaccreditation from Business in the Community; gold in the City of London considerate contractor streetworks scheme awards; and the industry innovation award in the European Utility Industry Awards.
