UK Power Network employee raises hundreds for Heart Charity

Cycling fundraiser Connie Dickie battled the elements to complete the London to Reading bike ride and raise hundreds of pounds for a heart charity.

Connie, who works at UK Power Networks in Potters Bar, completed the 40-mile route in blustery winds and driving rain in just over four hours.

She took part in the event with her sister Emily and between them they raised more than £500 for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Connie, who is a communications and event lead at the power firm which owns and operates the electricity networks in the East of England, London and the South East, decided to take part in the ride as part of a larger group from her local gym, after realising what excellent work the British heart Foundation does following the loss of a family friend to cardiac arrest in the young.

She said: “Heart illnesses affect so many and so when Tom, a personal trainer from my gym, suggested the ride I was one of the first to sign-up!

“Despite the blustery and wet weather conditions we completed the ride in just over four hours, which isn’t our best time but is a good achievement given Mother Nature's challenges.”

Connie is hoping to add to the amount raised as UK Power Networks operates a scheme where it will match fund staff’s fundraising efforts up to a maximum of £100.
