Turn Negatives into Positives

Turn Negatives into Positives

The other day I heard the phrase "turn a negative into a positive". It got me thinking as to whether we always do. There are times when we may think that nothing is going to work out the way we want it. An example of this would be if we tried to develop something to help others and it didn't function they way it should.

This is what happened to me, as I was trying to develop a message board to help people if they had a problem with computers and that it would be a way of getting people to network and share ideas. Unfortunately it didn't work, so having spent a great deal of time thinking about the merits of this site and how it was going to help others, I had to take it down.

I can hear you thinking that it wouldn't take long, well unfortunately it has taken me a week to do that! This was with toing and froing with emails to a site where I had posted my address, on how to get it off the web page. But to my frustration, it took a long time for me to try and work out what they were  actually telling me to do, so I gave up. No not completely, I worked it out myself, with great satisfaction, mind you I'm not sure I'll try it again!

It can sometimes be so easy to give up on something when it doesn't work out the first time, but when success happens it can be seen as an achievement.

We learn by these little things, not easy at times as we find out. It can, when we are feeling a bit more positive, be seen as part of our development and hopefully by having this experience we can use it in a different way, as in helping others.

I was reading in the paper this weekend about Nick Robinson and his diagnosis of cancer, and the way that he wanted to be there for the beginning of the election, he wasn't going to give up and sure enough he was there for the election. For some it may seem like a death knell for them, but others can fight for their health and wellbeing. This, after good news has been received can be turned into a positive.

For work though, our age can be a negative, where's the positive in that? The answer from me is that I'm still trying to work that one out! It has given me more time in developing my writing skills and realising I can be inspired by various articles. Also if I wanted to I would be able to develop another forum, but in a different format.

That's a negative into a positive for me, not only that it impressed my husband as to how computer literate I've become over the past few years.

There are times for everyone when negatives can become positives and maybe that is the way forward in getting a new job.
