Top 10 Lesbian Employers 2017

Here at VERCIDA we recently conducted research to find out how our clients are tackling sexual orientation and gender identity equality in the workplace.  Who is going the extra mile to ensure equality, opportunity and fair treatment for all, irrespective of sexuality. Here is our top 10 Lesbian Employers of 2017. 

10. Surrey Police 

Surrey Police LGBT Network (SPectrum) welcomes all sections of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community – although the network does recognise that some transgender staff may not identify themselves as lesbian or gay. Our objectives are to speak with a united voice within Surrey Police. To provide support and assistance to LGBT staff and to promote awareness of LGBT issues within Surrey Police by working with individuals and departments and with both internal and external groups.

9.  Bank of England 

The Bank of England have set up a their LGBT group to offer support to anyone dealing with issues relating to sexual orientation (eg, either personally or with friends and family), offer help with regards career issues (eg, buddying and mentoring) and reflect the diversity of their organisation which may help and support existing staff or staff joining or considering joining the Bank. The network has adopted three pillars of activity to support delivery of our aims: Attract the Best and Brightest to the Bank, Work and Develop and Socialise.

8.  PwC 

Out Professional Employee Network (OPEN) of PwC is committed to supporting a diverse and inclusive environment in the workplace, through education, networking, and community service. 2017 saw the first year that PwC became a major sponsor of Pride in London. PwC was represented by a number of their people, who will be proudly walking the Pride route to show their commitment to being inclusive of the LGBT+ community.

7.  BT 

BT have created an LGBT+ Allies programme in the hope that this will ensure that their colleagues do not feel nervous about opening up in the workplace. BT colleagues can sign up to the Ally programme to say that they are supportive of their LGBT+ colleagues and that they are an advocate, evangelist, supporter and friend who will help to create a working environment where LGBT+ people feel included and accepted.

 6.  Transport for London (TfL)

TfL's LGBT+ network, named OUTbound, represents the interests of their LGBT+ staff, customers and families. It ensures LGBT+ people are fairly represented by the policies we help shape and the improvements we initiate. In recent years they have undertaken an engagement strategy to demonstrate their support for the LGBT community, including London's first rainbow crossing as well as a rainbow bus, taxi and DLR train. As well as taking part in the Pride in London parade, they work closely with the organisers by hosting their volunteer training sessions on our premises and providing Travel Ambassadors on the day of the Parade.

5.  Norton Rose Fulbright 

Norton Rose Fulbright ranked in the top 10 of Stonewall's top 100 LGBT employers 2017 have a wide range of things going on to support LGBT in the work place, from their staff network group Pride, Pride Mentoring Groups, Showing Pride Campaign, International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) and Pride in the Community. Pride is open to everyone across the firm and includes a team of allies who challenge everyday assumptions and barriers that may make work life difficult for their LGBTI colleagues. The steering committee organises regular events and activities, including guest speakers from the LGBTI community and personal stories from our colleagues.

4.  Lloyds Banking Group

Ranked at number 1 in Stonewall’s most recent list of Top 100 Employers regarding its LGBT-friendly policies and procedures. The Group has an active Rainbow network consisting of 4,500 colleagues, one of the biggest networks of its kind in the UK. Lloyds Banking Group has made public pledges to increase the engagement scores of LGBT colleagues to 70% by 2020, as part of their Helping Britain Prosper Plan. The Group has become the first UK organisation to broaden its staff healthcare plans to cover gender dysphoria.

3.  Reed Smith 

Reed Smith work closely with Stonewall to promote LGBT inclusion across the legal industry. Reed Smith entered the Stonewall Work Equality Index and ranked in the Top 100. Their LGBT network, PRISM, has also been acknowledged as a ‘Highly Commended Network’.

2.  ITV

ITV Pride is a network group for LGBT colleagues. Matt Scarff, the co-chair of ITV Pride is named in Campaign Magazine’s 2016 Top 10 List of LGBT+ Role Models. ITV are Chairs of Intermedia UK, the LGBT network group for people working across the media spectrum. ITV have worked with Stonewall to produce an anti-bullying video for schools. 1.  Barclays

At the top of our list is Barclays. Stonewall Star Performers, Barclays has been placed in the top ten of the Stonewall Top 100 Employers list no less than three times in the past five years. Barclays continually looks for original ways to communicate its commitment to LGBT equality, for example, utilizing the impact of its Barclays ATMs across the UK during Pride in London where it was once again headline sponsor.
