Skip to main contentToday marks the first ever National Day for Staff Networks, which aims to formally recognise the work of staff networks in the UK workplace.
The organisers of the day decided there was a need for such a day after noticing the benefits that Staff Networks give to businesses and the hard work that goes in to creating an effective group by Leaders, who often run the networks on top of their day jobs.
Staff Network Groups create safe communities in which employees from all different groups can express themselves and gain support to raise issues and feel accepted in the workplace. They are key to enabling employees to discuss barriers and devise practical, creative and commercially viable solutions to reduce the challenges faced by certain groups. In a nutshell, staff networks are making work better, which is the theme of the day.
There are three aims to the day:
Celebrate
The days is meant to encourage employers across the UK to celebrate how staff networks, through their insight, innovation and intelligence, add value and help make constructive use of differences, improving the organisation as a whole.
Inspiration
A call to action for all staff networks to identify ways in which they can work together in the future to continue to create best practises and foster inclusion in the workplace
Transformation
To change the conversation around the power of staff networks so that they are seen as business critical
You can get involved with the day by Pledging to Participate. The organisers are asking you to download their pledge card, sign your name or staff networks and organisation, take a photo and share on social media, tag @day4networks and #makingworkbetter.
You could also become a Regional/Local Ambassador and organise an event on the day. Find out more here.
Lastly, you can promote the day by sharing good news with colleagues and staff networks within your organisation and across social media. You can download a logo here.
The day is about collaboration, celebration and changing the conversation.
