The Cambridge English Charity Committee

The Cambridge English Charity Committee is a group of dedicated individuals from across the business who work together to provide a calendar of charity events and raise money for a variety of charities.

Every year staff vote to choose a Charity of the Year.  We support this charity by holding regular charity days on which staff are encouraged to donate online and in person.  We also create a Christmas e-card and the proceeds of this are donated to our Charity of the Year.  In previous years we have raised over £2k for Red Balloon Cambridge and the same again for East Anglia’s Children’s’ Hospices.  This year our Charity of the Year is Blue Smile, a charity that works to provide therapy and counselling for children in schools.

In addition to our Charity of the Year we also support a number of other charities.  We hold bake sales, craft and produce sales and second hand book sales as well as dress down days, quizzes and raffles.  We also make sure we respond to any disaster relief appeals by enabling staff to donate at work.  We work with teams in the Global Network to support their fundraising efforts.

Some of our more successful event have not been about donating cash.  In 2014 we held a collection for Jimmy’s Night Shelter where staff donated warm clothes, blankets and food.  Last Christmas we ran a similar event for Cambridge City Food Bank.  Both times the response was overwhelming.

It’s the lovely staff at Cambridge English who make our events and collections so successful.  We’re really lucky to work for an organisation full of generous, big-hearted people.
