Last week, the Fawcett Society, revealed that around 80% of workplaces have no policies or help for those experiencing menopause, and 45% of those surveyed avoid speaking to their GP due to stigma and a perceived lack of support from GPs on this topic. Other studies indicate that around 20% of women are considering leaving their roles due to the symptoms of menopause and lack of support from their employers. These are shocking statistics and show how little women still seem to be regarded in the workplace.
At Teneo, we are committed to supporting all employees experiencing peri-menopausal (the period leading up to menopause) and menopausal symptoms and helping colleagues and Talent Managers/Coaches understand how they can support employees experiencing such symptoms. We want to ensure that menopause is recognised as a natural stage, that we normalise conversations about menopause, and employees at Teneo feel confident to ask for, and access, the support that they need so they can continue to flourish at work.
Our Menopause Support Policy offers excellent practical and emotional support based on individual symptoms and how these may be impacting their life. We provide practical support through reasonable adjustments at work, access to specialist menopause trained GPs through the BUPA Menopause Plan and emotional support through access to internal and external sources such as the Peppy menopause app and our Employee Assistance Programme.
We also have a team of Menopause Champions. Menopause Champions are specially trained in supporting individuals through menopause and peri-menopause. Menopause Champions are employees who have been trained to support you as you experience symptoms, discuss any reasonable adjustments that you might need and signpost you to other avenues of focused support such as how to access HRT. Menopause Champions are also available to advise/support those of any gender whose loved one may be experiencing menopausal or peri-menopausal symptoms.
Niru Subramanian - Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Teneo said:
“As someone who passionately supports DEI and wellbeing and is currently experiencing peri-menopause, I cannot be more excited to share that we have now issued our Menopause Support Policy here at Teneo UK, as part of a range of policies that focus on reproductive health.
Personally, as a woman who intends to work for many more years, I feel proud to be part of an organisation that takes women's health seriously and supports women at all life stages to flourish.
As a DEI practitioner, I encourage other organisations to follow and provide the support that your women need to thrive at work.”
