IOPC: Stress and Trauma Resilience Employee Assistance Model

The IOPC offer bespoke talking system, (We have named our system STREAM - Stress and Trauma Resilience Employee Assistance Model) designed specifically for us, based on the issues we have. Being a peer support model, it empowers and trains our own staff to be practitioners, able to support their colleagues. It combines two existing systems, which are both used separately by many Civil Service departments, some police forces, and the military. Our practitioners have all received intensive training from a psychological services organisation called March on Stress.

On the 25th September Stream practitioners attended “The stream away day” .We talked about many ways to raise awareness of what stream can offer. The away day also provided opportunity for practitioners to discuss their experiences and how as a team we can improve things. There were discussions about raising awareness within the organisation, work and development with the HR team to expand knowledge of how mental health and other elements can affect day to day lives. We discussed how we can improve the on call and day response system to ensure staff have the opportunity of STREAM support. We had an input from PAM and how the process can help and what they can offer employees.

The charity for civil servants also provided an input and they are available to us to use for various things. They offer advice for carers, financial matters, and a legal advice system using law express. The charity has worked with individuals to help them during difficult times no matter how big or small the issue may be.
