A draft plan on trans equality has been published today by the Stonewall Trans Advisory Group ahead of a two-week public consultation.
‘A Vision for Change’ has been written by the Stonewall Trans Advisory Group (STAG) and supported by Stonewall.
It covers a broad range of issues affecting trans people, including education, employment, hate crime, healthcare and recognition. The group is now looking for feedback to ensure that ‘A Vision for Change’ fully reflects the experience of trans people.
Stonewall’s Trans Advisory Group reflects a diverse range of trans voices and experiences and it supports the integration of trans equality across all Stonewall’s campaigns and programmes.
The public will be able to respond to ‘A Vision for Change’ in a number of ways, including by phone, email and post.
There will also be a series of face-to-face consultation events across Britain specifically for people who identify as trans, including gender fluid people or people who don’t associate with either gender.
The events are being held in Birmingham, Newcastle, London, Cardiff, Perth and Manchester.
The consultation takes place between 13-26 February 2017.
Rebecca Stinson, Stonewall’s Head of Trans Inclusion, said: ‘The advisory group are really keen to hear from as many people as possible. They are determined that these plans work for everyone, so that they can help secure meaningful equality.
‘The group have also identified areas where Stonewall can help and we’re committed to taking action in line with those issues.
‘This is a massive LGBT equality milestone – one that has alluded us for far too long.
‘When we finally secure trans equality, we will have strengthened and safeguarded equality for everyone in the LGBT community, and moved closer to creating a world where everyone is accepted without exception.’
