Welcome to VERCIDA website.
Skip to main contentAn article I wrote earlier explained how smartphones are not always reliable, in helping us to have an easier life. Now, I read in the paper that driving licences are going paperless. This is all in the aid of cost cutting, but by doing it this way people are losing their jobs and we are becoming a "faceless society."
So now drivers are being told to use a code from the DVLA website, which the hire firm then uses to access driving records. There is a problem in that the code expires in three days. Then the website crashed as people were trying to obtain the code.
The DVLA also assured the public that the website is accessible overseas, but not everyone has a smartphone, mobile signal and their NI number. The government has said that some companies are happy to see the photos card licence, but again the driver will have to check this out for themselves. The code is then valid for only 72 hours, so if for some reason or another you're hiring a car later than this, the code then is invalid.
While it is great that we are not using paper so much, it is frustrating and possibly time wasting to always have to rely on technology to have the correct information at hand.
For those who don't use the internet they would have to ring the DVLA to obtain a code, but this is where data protection becomes a problem as it would be easy for them to look at peoples'driving records.
Social media hasn't made it easier for people to go away. Another example of how social media can be frustrating, as reading again in the same paper 1 in 3 of us suffer from "password rage". It is getting to the point where people need a password for everything, it also claims that a quarter of UK consumers have more than 21 active online accounts. No wonder we have the occasional meltdown!
There is great pressure on the public to become more independent, by not relying on someone at the end of phone. For those who are not confident in social media this can be a problem, and society will become more isolated if individuals are faced with using social media as a way of obtaining information.
So by being confident in all aspects of social media today means there are more openings for individuals, where their full potential can be reached. It is getting that knowledge and confidence in the first place to use it, and most times it can be trial and error.
