OMG UK names Reg Amoah as Diversity and Inclusion Lead
This week we are delighted to welcome Reg Amoah our new D&I Lead. Reg previously worked at law firm Norton Rose Fulbright where he was D&I advisor. Reg is passionate about the development of diverse talent and creating an inclusive environment. His passion extends beyond the workplace and he has taken part in a number of community development projects for local authorities, housing associations and charities, most recently the East London Business Alliance managing partnerships and creating inclusion curriculums with schools. He was a contributor on the book Diversify and is a content creator for Diversify.org, running workshops for corporate partners. Reg will be working closely with our D&I Advisory Teams and sit on the D&I Steering Group as we focus on our ambitions and objectives to lead the way in shaping a truly diverse and inclusive environment that reflects both Real Britain and the cities where we are based.
Find out more about Reg below.

Q. How did you get into a D&I advisory role?

I used to go to D&I events and noticed that very few of the D&I professionals looked like me so I believed that D&I itself could be more diverse. I added all the D&I people I could find on LinkedIn and saw where I had transferable skills but also recognised what value my lived experience as a Black man and approach in navigating barriers could bring to a D&I role. Initially I couldn’t get past the recruitment portals until I persuaded a recruitment consultant to get me an interview at a global law firm.  I was able to articulate the value of my difference in the two interviews I had and then I was in.

Q. Why is working as a D&I specialist so important to you?

I remember growing up feeling like an outsider for various reasons and so I empathise with outsiders, and also recognise the value of being outside the circle and having a different perspective. Working in D&I helps me create opportunities for other people who feel like insiders so that collectively we don’t lose people with the talents we need to come up with innovative solutions to complex challenges.

Q. Of the work you’ve done to date, what are you most proud of?

Setting up the social mobility within Norton Rose Fulbright LLP.  We had social mobility programmes externally but not an internal network and so I lobbied people at all levels of the organisation to get involved and share their social mobility stories. I also spoke candidly about race and wrote articles encouraging a wider conversation.

Q. Who are your role models and why?

My Dad is a role model, he was always pushed me to know about Black history and used to demonstrate against Apartheid when he was a student.  The Lawrences really moved the bar for all of us after the tragic murder of their son. They fought so hard, didn’t give in and changed race relations in our country and the way we understand racism.

Q. What attracted you to come and join us at OMG, UK?

I always tried to understand why we value some people less than others and I concluded that it’s down to the stories we tell ourselves. Omnicom as a global media and advertising company has the ability to influence the narrative of who we are. I reasoned that if I could help diversify who comes in then the messages that come out will more inclusive of everyone, then we can all see our value.
