High-achieving insurance services firm pledge support for #balanceforbetter

Successful business leader and Comedian Cally Beaton took to the floor to talk about a building a gender-balanced world and pushing towards #balanceforbetter at the QBE Insurance Group London’s International Women’s Day event on Thursday 7th March. Cally has spent the last three decades working in high profile roles in international media, including as Senior Vice President at Viacom. Working closely with Comedy Central inspired Cally to embark on a double life as a stand-up comedian and has made appearances on BBC Radio 4 and quick-thinking quiz show, QI. This is the 4th year that QBE have celebrated International Women’s Day encouraging colleagues from across the business to focus on gender equality.

“It was fantastic to see so many offices involved in the celebrations, showing what great support we have across the UK, Europe and Canada,” Caroline Edwards, QBE’s Circle network Co-Chair, explained.

Diversity in the workplace

QBE’s ethos is to make change from the ground up, bringing staff with them as partners in the company’s diversity journey. This year pledge cards were sent to staff for them to share and consider how they could express their support for balance in the workplace. And make change.

Caroline continued, “We had quizzes, cupcakes, charity collections, pledge boards, book and DVD shares, bake sales, a fantastic guest speaker, and the first ever QBE Circle field trip in Birmingham.”

The London event was just one part of the celebrations and initiatives launched by the team behind the multi-national insurance and reinsurance company. Staff in Stafford, Manchester and London donated sanitary products and new girls or women’s underwear to the Red Box Project.

This charity tackles period poverty and, by providing free menstrual products in schools, ensures that no young person misses school because they have their period. Staffordshire Women’s Aid also benefitted from their local QBE team’s generosity

Meanwhile. QBE colleagues in Canada are supporting Dress for Success. This international not-for-profit organization is empowering women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

QBE is active in both the Lloyd’s and company market offering hundreds of product lines for all business needs in the broking market. They’re currently looking for people to help them to achieve their vision of being the most successful global insurer and reinsurer in the eyes of customers, staff, shareholders and their communities.
