QBE were recognised with a highly commended award in the ‘Organisational’ category of the British Dyslexia Association Awards, presented at the association’s Gala Dinner in London.
The award credits QBE’s efforts to educate its people about dyslexia, provide assessments and promote assistance tools available to those affected by the condition, including software programs and coloured overlays for computer screens. QBE also utilise assistance tools for potential employees utilising the VERCIDA website to advertise all of its UK vacancies, this site has undergone extensive accessibility testing by The Shaw Trust and has a current WC3 AAA accessibility rating.
The British Dyslexia Association aims to influence the government and other institutions to promote a dyslexia-friendly society, which enables dyslexic people of all ages to reach their full potential.
EO Data Manager, Janet Blaber accepted the accolade with an off-the-cuff speech, which her colleagues and those in attendance on the night praised for being earnest and inspiring. Janet spoke about her own experience with dyslexia, her positive experience at QBE – who she said recognises and supports its people who are affected by the condition – while acknowledging the progress that is still possible.
The award has been credited to the Workability group, who have worked with HR, IT and CRES to create visibility about the condition itself and to promote the support available within QBE.
