Suitable social housing accommodation and employment to those experiencing homelessness - the Naumann Initiative

Career and Talent Development

Pioneered by Kingdom Housing Association, the Naumann Initiative seeks to provide a combined package of suitable social housing accommodation and employment to people who are experiencing homelessness. It is aimed at the 'hidden homeless' – those staying in hostels or sleeping on a friends sofa for example.

We identified 2 roles within the business that would be suitable - a Junior Communications Officer and a Hub Advisor dealing with residents calls and requests.

We worked with various charities and the DWP to find suitable candidates and held 2 open days during October 2020 where those that attended learnt about the scheme, PA Housing and the roles on offer.

Social distancing presented some challenges but we were determined to go ahead and make this happen.

2 further assessment centres were held where the candidates had a day of activities including group exercises, interviews, admin tests and call handling scenarios.

We were blown away by the talents, skills and characters of those that attended and we were able to shortlist 4 excellent candidates from the 11 that attended.

This presented a problem as we simply couldn't differentiate between the 4 great candidates. So, with EMTs support we were able to offer the opportunity of a permanent home and job to all 4 candidates.​

Fast forward to January 11th 2021 and we welcomed Jose, Paul, Jim and Connor into the PA Housing family.

Paul Spencer

Role: Housing Hub Advisor

“I have had a varied employment background in domestic and commercial electrical installations, property maintenance and tool hire before joining PA Housing.

I am really looking forward to personal growth and the change of career. It's very different to what I'm used to but I'm looking forward to building a new skill set.

The Naumann project has been a great initiative as things have been a bit uncertain recently. Having the chance to have a stable job and a home together is something that does not come along too often.

And with the support of the Home Moves and Tenancy Sustainment teams they will all be in their new accommodation by mid-February.

Being involved in this initiative has been both an honour and a pleasure and we're hoping it's the first of many Naumann projects we can run.
