Category: Gender (Equality & Identity)

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2017, staff at Ofcom raised money for the Wonder Foundation, a charity which works to empower vulnerable women, girls and communities worldwide through education. They partner with local projects around the world that work to support women and girls, acting as a stimulus to end poverty and improve wellbeing across families and communities. Wonder works with their partners to help local school children, health workers and others in need get the training and skills that they require in order to get themselves, their families and ultimately their communities out of poverty for good.

Ofcom have raised £400 for Wonder’s educations projects by putting on a bake sale for their colleagues, the day was a great success and the money raised has gone to help Wonder and their partners continue to do their fantastic work supporting the education of disadvantaged girls and women around the world.

In order to celebrate Ofcom’s achievements, Wonder’s Charlene Ching visited Ofcom’s Southwark offices in London to give a presentation to the staff about the work that Wonder does, empowering women and girls through local and vocational education in order to gain professional employment. Charlene also shared her own experiences of working with Wonder’s partner organisations within the UK and the Philippines. She also took the chance to present a certificate of appreciation to Ofcom’s CEO, Sharon White (as pictured below).

Ofcom employees, Stephanie de la Sayette, Karolina Paszkowska and Sasha Magill were the ones who took the initiative to fundraise for Wonder and who invited Charlene to speak to their colleagues about the work that Wonder does and how the money that Ofcom raised will help Wonder to continue supporting those in need. Stephanie said "A massive thank you from us all to Wonder and to Charlene in particular for coming to Ofcom and presenting about your great work”. After the event, she said that “We had great feedback - people told me how inspiring it was."
